Universal Healthcare:
A Disaster in the Making
by the Founder of The Conervative Lion
Several months ago I was
presented with a family crisis. My elderly mother had been hospitalized for a terrible fever along with other medical
conditions and two days later my wife had been hospitalized for a kidney infection. For both my wife and mother I was there
for them. From the moment they were admitted to the emergency room all the way through discharge. That is what family if for.
They were both admitted to White Plains Hospital, a private hospital in New York State known for its superb quality
healthcare. I have to say, I was incredibly impressed by the level of service provided. When we walked into emergency room,
we spent only five minutes explaining the reasons why my family needed ER care. Moments later, we were directed to the triage
center where medical professionals assessed the urgency of medical attention. That took approximately 20 minutes as they sought
information on the medical condition at hand, checking vital signs and overall medical history. Next, we were assigned a private
room within the ER with physician and nurses standing by. The facilities were clean and in immaculate condition. The demeanor
of the medical staff was caring, professional and courteous. Both my mother and wife had to take a series of blood work and
CAT scans. While awaiting the examination results in our private quarters, we noticed right in front of us a brand new flat
screen TV complete with cable channels!
On a regular basis the medical staff would come by asking if we needed
anything. Ladies and gentlemen, while all of this was going on, I actually said quietly, "Thank God for our superb and
superior health care system. God only help us should we follow the road to socialized medicine." I felt proud that we
live in a land in which my family was receiving the best possible medical care. Yet there is a strong movement by the Obama
administration and the democratic left to develop, administer and grow universal healthcare. How would my ER experience be
described under socialized medicine? Does it really require much thought, scratching one's head ad infinitum? Common sense
dictates a resounding no! Remember, socialism is a failed experiment and yet there are those individuals who will not let
it rest, who seek its revival. Let us examine a hypothetical yet potentially real scenario of socialized medicine
in action. Please click here for the rest of the article:
